I know I’ve been writing some sad stuff lately but I realize now, at the end of the day, that life has to go on. This is an experience that I will take and learn from. Thank You, God, not for walking me through today but for carrying me. That’s really the only word. Carrying.
Anyway, we had a family dinner tonight and I want to present:
Now and Then: Gabriel Flores
Guys, it saddens me that Gab is so THIN already (!!!) :( He was never really fat (after all, he’s a physical trainer in Washington) but this is just ridiculous. He entered a competition called Great Bodies 2009 and has been off carbs for a month now. He’s already lost 25 pounds.
While I admire his dedication to win, I can’t believe that he has morphed into this clean-eating machine. We text every week and he always tells me that he can’t wait to stuff a big slice of pizza in his mouth. If you know Gab, you’ll know that he has an insane appetite so this diet, this competition in general, has been extreme torture. But it just goes to show many things. Like how powerful the human will is. How fast the human body can adapt. But most of all, how strong familial love is. Even though we hardly see him anymore, and whenever we do, he’s on ‘zombie mode’ (not having enough calories = no energy, hence the term), we love him and we know that he, more than anyone, deserves to win. The support, I think, is overwhelming.
The competition is this Friday already and we are all excited to be there to cheer him on. If you’re interested in going, let me know. Admission is free (haha) :)
Gab, what else can we say? We are proud of you. We love you!

Notes:

About:

that's when i realized that words have wings;
they're kind of like birds but mostly like children,
whom you groom and raise.
you mold them and shape them well
and, like the sky that has no limits,
you hope that someday,
somebody will take them home,
call them their own;
that they will find a place to belong.
